Beirut. My heart is with you.
It was 2009 when I was working in the Lebanon International Model United Nations, an experience that marked my life forever. Friendships that even years and oceans apart still sustain with those memories to always reconnect us. The people, the culture, the food, and the coast.
After the explosion reported in Beirut yesterday August 4, 2020, all I could think about was the people in Beirut.
I saw when the Notre Dame reconstruction project raised more than expected approximating 1 billion USD raised.
That was for a piece of historic heritage.
So is Beirut.
More importantly, this is more than just history. This is about today, and tomorrow. As a student of International Politics I always thought in my personally biased mind that the social and cultural mix of Beirut seemed like the recipe towards peace in the region.
